ublication Details: Published in August 2002 by the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. Bound in textured purple leatherette featuring gilt-foil stamped lettering, a single gold star, and an interior title page bearing the fraternity's coat of arms (owl crest and escutcheon).
-
About the Book: The Purple Pilgrim serves as the official national pledge manual and educational guide issued to new initiates of the Phi Gamma Delta (often called "FIJI") fraternity. It contains the fraternity's history (founded in 1848 at Jefferson College in Pennsylvania), founding fathers ("The Immortal Six"), governing constitution, values, and leadership principles.
-
Interesting Fact: Phi Gamma Delta strictly forbids its members from displaying their Greek letters ($\Phi\Gamma\Delta$) on casual clothing, storefronts, or general merchandise. By fraternity tradition, the letters are considered sacred and may only appear in seven specific, protected locations (such as the official fraternity badge, the seal, the house monument, and official certificates). Because members could not wear their letters publicly, they adopted the moniker "FIJI" (originally from an early fraternity magazine issue) and use the "Purple Pilgrim" moniker and mascot imagery instead.
